Glebe welcomes entire city to the GGGS!

Glebe welcomes entire city to the GGGS!

By Colette Downie

Huge crowds from all over Ottawa and beyond poured into the neighbourhood to enjoy Great Glebe Garage Sale 2024 on a gorgeous May 25.  Glebe neighbours offered a warm welcome to what felt like the entire city at one massive celebration of spring.

Donations to the Ottawa Food Bank are rolling in strong at the time of writing. It’s not too late to donate online at https://donate.ottawafoodbank.ca/ui/gggs2024. Food insecurity is a huge problem in Ottawa, including in the Glebe. Please consider helping the Ottawa Food Bank tackle this enormous task.

New this year, the Ottawa Jazz Festival sent us an amazing band – we hope you enjoyed the musicians as they marched around the neighbourhood drawing attention to our fundraising efforts.

GNAG’s leadership group helped with games and face painting as well distributing flyers with our donation QR code to vendors around the neighbourhood. Diffusart pitched in to help with posters, and businesses like Amsted and Starbucks accepted food donations on our behalf. Thanks goes again to Metro McKeen Glebe which tirelessly supports the Ottawa Food Bank year-round, including at the GGGS – this year, it also provided ice for the St Johns ambulance volunteers in the first-aid station at the Glebe Community Centre.

And once again, thanks to all for the bake and rummage sales, lemonade stands and musical performances, which raised money for the Food Bank, and thanks to all the vendors who donated a share of their proceeds.
